Stunning Louisy Joseph bounces back

Louisy Joseph is a gorgeous French singer of Martinique heritage who has gone from rags to riches in the last year…

Not so long ago the sizzling chart-topper had to sell all her furniture just to pay the bills – despite selling MILLIONS of records while with top French girl band L5 from 2001 to 2007!

The experience inspired the lyrics for her recent megahit Assis Par Terre (‘Sitting on the Floor’).

Born Lydy Louisy Joseph on April 14, 1978 in Lyon, she discovered a love for music very early. Seeing her father’s Caribbean band perform led to her composing her own songs and learning the guitar. She left school at the age of 15 to devote herself to music.

In 2001 she auditioned for the M6 music contest ‘Popstars’ – and went on to win a place in L5.

The girl band’s first single, Toutes les femmes de ta vie, was released in 2002 and sold 1.6 million copies. Their first album, ‘L5’, sold 1.2 million discs. Their second album, ‘Retiens-moi’, went platinum after selling over 500,000 copies.

But by 2006 the band’s sales had slumped and they split. Not having earned much during her time with L5, Louisy fell on hard times and had to sell all her furniture.

A friend convinced her to contact Pascal Obispo at Warner Music France, who immediately signed her.  With the gifted John Mamann as her producer, she made a soul, reggae and acoustic album, dropping her first name to become simply Louisy Joseph.

Louisy’s first solo album, ‘La saison des amours’, was released on April 14 2008 – her 30th birthday – with hit singles, Assis par terre, Mes insomnies and Imagine de John Lennon. In September, ‘La saison’ went Silver. From January 2009, Louisy started her first solo tour in France.
