Stunning Louisy Joseph bounces back

Louisy Joseph is a gorgeous French singer of Martinique heritage who has gone from rags to riches in the last year…

Not so long ago the sizzling chart-topper had to sell all her furniture just to pay the bills – despite selling MILLIONS of records while with top French girl band L5 from 2001 to 2007!

The experience inspired the lyrics for her recent megahit Assis Par Terre (‘Sitting on the Floor’).

Born Lydy Louisy Joseph on April 14, 1978 in Lyon, she discovered a love for music very early. Seeing her father’s Caribbean band perform led to her composing her own songs and learning the guitar. She left school at the age of 15 to devote herself to music.

In 2001 she auditioned for the M6 music contest ‘Popstars’ – and went on to win a place in L5.

The girl band’s first single, Toutes les femmes de ta vie, was released in 2002 and sold 1.6 million copies. Their first album, ‘L5’, sold 1.2 million discs. Their second album, ‘Retiens-moi’, went platinum after selling over 500,000 copies.

But by 2006 the band’s sales had slumped and they split. Not having earned much during her time with L5, Louisy fell on hard times and had to sell all her furniture.

A friend convinced her to contact Pascal Obispo at Warner Music France, who immediately signed her.  With the gifted John Mamann as her producer, she made a soul, reggae and acoustic album, dropping her first name to become simply Louisy Joseph.

Louisy’s first solo album, ‘La saison des amours’, was released on April 14 2008 – her 30th birthday – with hit singles, Assis par terre, Mes insomnies and Imagine de John Lennon. In September, ‘La saison’ went Silver. From January 2009, Louisy started her first solo tour in France.

Joy for Renan Luce – heartbreak for the girls!

March 18, 2009

French star Renan Luce is to marry his Lolita

French star Renan Luce is to marry his Lolita

Millions of French girls will this week be heartbroken at the news that popular singer Renan Luce is to wed.

The 29-year-old star has proposed to Lolita  Séchan – the stunning daughter of controversial French singer Renaud Séchan.

Renan’s massive hits include Les Voisines and La Lettre, showcasing his genius for clever lyrics and storytelling as well as catchy melodies and brilliant music videos.

News of the engagement was broken at the weekend by Lolita’s uncle.

Renan’s songs are inspired by the 20th century singer and songwriter Georges Brassens and depict everyday life with a dose of humour and poetry.

He was born in Paris but grew up in Plourin-les-Morlaix, Brittany (near Morlaix, in the Finistere).

He began his musical career with his brother Damien and his sister Claire in a choir; afterwards he debuted classical piano at the conservatory of Brest, then at Saint-Brieuc. He then mastered the saxophone and also taught himself the guitar by composing his first songs.

After two years of preparatory classes in Rennes (at Saint-Vincent), where he performed in bars and at a few festivals, he was admitted to a leading school of commerce in Toulouse, South West France.

In September 2006 Renan released his first album Repenti, comprising 13 tracks and three live versions.

Dimitri's Rail - will they rise to our challenge?!

Dimitri's Rail - will they rise to our challenge?!

Okay, so on the surface this may seem to be off topic – hot Texan rock band Dimitri’s Rail does NOT do French songs (yet!)… but LingoLyrics has CHALLENGED frontman Paul Ehmer to do just that – sing in French!

Even it it’s just the chorus! (Example:  the incredible ‘Lady Marmalade’ – Voulez -vous Coucher Avec Moi ce soir – from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack, featuring Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mýa, and Pink.

Why? Because Paul Ehmer has the most amazing vocals, and Dimitri’s Rail is so awesome we’d love the excuse to feature them on our addictive language learning ezine at www.LingoLyrics.com, which provides the best French music videos, translated lyrics and cool profiles on featured artists.

Random, you might say… but you’ll understand if you’ve ever heard the phenomenal sounds of Dimitri’s Rail. If not, don’t just take our word for it – check out their groundbreaking music HERE!

Dimitri’s Rail hit the alternative rock scene in 2001. In 2003 they released their debut album, “Seasons of the Weak”. The album was produced in conjunction with top engineer Steve Christensen, who has worked with multi-platinum artist Destiny’s Child and Clay Walker. Songwriter/front-man Paul Ehmer was nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year at the 2004 MTM Texas Music Awards.

DR is now back in the studio recording the second full length album due for release in 2009. This amazing band has opened for
Vince Neil (of Motley Crue), Blue October, The Hunger, and many more.

Youtube and the Battle of the Bands…

March 10, 2009

We’ve been following the battle between Youtube and the agency that protects the rights of musicians – will we get caught in the crossfire?!

Here’s a snip from the latest news, from cnet.com:

“Google-owned video-sharing site YouTube is silencing music videos in the U.K. after negotiations with the country’s Performing Right Society (PRS for Music), which collects licensing fees for artists and labels, failed.”

Our website at lingolyrics.com features embedded Youtube and Daily Motion music videos of French singers and bands. But we’ve added value to the videos by providing translated lyrics and profiles on the featured artists. We’ve also given links to official fan sites and Amazon links to relevant CDs, DVDs and books.

We don’t feel like we’re doing anything wrong! We are genuine fans of all the music on our site and we believe we’re doing the featured French musicians a service by promoting their music all over the world. We also feel we’re helping to make it easier for people who wish to learn the language of love.

We’re not trying to cheat the music industry by using videos on our site – we just want to share our passion and make a career out of doing something we love… and we’re also improving our French in the process.

Heres hoping Youtube and PRS learn to make love… not war!
